Overheard yesterday, “What is she, 23? That’s so young.”

I laughed to myself, then sighed a little, trying to feel all relieved, shrug out from under the self-doubt. Of course it is, of course it is.

But it’s not like being sixteen. At thirty I’ll chuckle over the absorbedness and absurdness of it all, how it ever worried me. Who am I kidding, the chuckling will probably start tomorrow. But the question now, right now, is what in the world to do? And when?
